The cabin is situated on our two acre croft about six miles off the NC500, north west coast of Scotland.

Wester Alligin is a small, rural, coastal settlement about six miles from Torridon in a designated National Scenic Area.

By car from Inverness approximately 1 hour 45 minutes (67 miles).

Public transport, train to Achnasheen, followed by pre-booked taxi Torridon Private Hire (24 - 48 hours notice required)

From the cabin you can enjoy the coastal scenery on low level walks from the door.

Further afield enjoy hill walking, mountaineering, cycling, water sports, exploring and sightseeing.

There are several Munros to climb including Beinn Alligin, Liathach and Beinn Eighe.

Places to go & things to do
Groceries
Birch Grove Cabin is in a rural location. We recommend you bring provisions with you as there are very few shops and limited opening hours. For general provisions Torridon Stores offers a good selection of basics (check opening times).
Walks from the door
Birch Grove Cabin is ideal for low level and coastal walks from the door. Walk Highlands website has detailed descriptions of a range of options with varying difficulty, length and time required. You will find a number of suggested walks in our Guest Information Booklet.
Mountain hikes
For the more adventurous the Torridon mountains offer a range of outstanding options. Details of these can also be found on Walk Highlands website. There are local guides providing instruction and experiences for a range of abilities e.g. Climb Torridon.
If planning a long, one way walk, pick up or drop off is available from Torridon Private hire.
Mountain biking
Riders looking for a remote adventure experience will find the Torridon area a destination not to miss. Detailed information on routes and trails can be found on Trail Forks website.
Kayaking
The coastline around Loch Torridon provides some awe-inspiring scenery. There are a number of public jetties for launching your own equipment. Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures provides a range of activities and an equipment hire service.
Reading and relaxing
There's a great rural book shop in Gairloch with a coffee shop. Hillbillies is packed full of hidden gems, with a knowledgable team willing to help. Relax back at the cabin with your feet up watching the ever changing light across the loch and mountains.
Art and craft
Inspired by the wide open landscape Lisa Fenton O'Brien is based in Shieldaig at the Blue Roof Studio. Further a field along the road towards Kishorn is The Bealach Cafe and Gallery at Tornapress with a range of work from artists and crafters.
Cafes
Locally there's Torridon Stores and Cafe with great coffee and selection of cakes. Further around the loch in Shieldaig there's Nanny's with a selection of coffees and cakes.
Restaurants
Travel west over the Bealach na Gaoithe to the end of the road at Diabaig and you will find the Gille Brighde Cafe and Restaurant. Towards Annat is The Torridon Hotel it has a number of dining options both formal and informal.
Tours
Donald MacDonald Tours offers a true highland experience on a variety of tours taking in the spectacular scenery combined with in depth local knowledge. You'll be collected and driven in a comfortable and tidy Volkswagen Transporter Shuttle.
EV car charging
The cabin has a dedicated 13amp external charging point. Approximately 6 miles away there is a public EV charging point at Torridon Community Centre.
Further afield
Further north beyond Gairloch are the Inverewe Gardens where the warmth of the Gulf Stream meets the Highlands. A drive south from the cabin leads to the Applecross peninsular with its scenic coast road, mountain pass and famous Inn.
