Stunning views: Walk from the Door to Inveralligin

This scenic walk to Inveralligin begins right outside the cabin, providing a chance to enjoy the views. The 2.8 mile (4 km) route is it perfect for a leisurely walk from the door typically taking about 1.5 hours.

The trail features a mix of surfaces, starting along a well-maintained road, followed by expansive heathland. This section offers stunning views of the loch, with diverse flora and fauna along the way.


  • The heathland track can be muddy at certain times of the year.

  • Please keep to the path on this walk from the door to Inveralligin.

  • Turn left out of the cabin driveway and follow the tarmac road.

  • Just past the cottage called Midwest there’s a sign post pointing to Inveralligin.

  • Turn right on the road towards Inveralligin.

  • Follow the tarmac road until you see a kissing gate leading to the heathland.

  • Go through the gate and follow the track across the heathland.

  • Eventually the heath track slopes down and approaches the sea. Go down some steps cut into the rock to the shore. (Steps can be slippy in wet weather).

  • At the bottom of the steps follow the path to the left around the shore, past a couple of houses and over a small bridge. You have reached Inveralligin.

  • Either retrace your steps back across the heath or alternatively for a circular walk, follow the tarmac road up the hill and along the road back to Wester Alligin.
