Experience

Located in one of the most beautiful and wild landscapes of Scotland the Torridon area offers dramatic mountain and loch scenery, ancient geology, abundant wildlife, attracting walkers, climbers and nature lovers.

Food

We provide guests with a welcome hamper of fresh baked bread and homemade shortbread biscuits along with produce sourced from Scotland, see our list here.

Eating out experiences include Torridon Stores and Cafe with great coffee and selection of cakes. ​

Travel west over the Bealach na Gaoithe to the end of the road at Diabaig and you will find the Gille Brighde Cafe and Restaurant. Towards Annat is The Torridon Hotel it has a number of dining options both formal and informal.

Further around the loch in Shieldaig there's Nanny's with a selection of coffees and cakes,  Kishorn Seafood Bar. On the route to Applecross there's the Tournapress Gallery and Cafe.

Walking and Hiking

The area around Torridon in the North West Highlands is a walkers paradise, renowned for its dramatic and ancient sandstone mountains. Offering a sense of wilderness and spectacular, rugged scenery for all ability levels.

Birch Grove Cabin is ideal for low level and coastal walks from the door. We provide information in the cabin for guests about the numerous local walks.

 

For the more adventurous the Torridon mountains offer a range of outstanding options. ​Details of these can also be found on Walking Highlands website. There are local guides providing instruction and experiences for a range of abilities e.g. Climb Torridon.  

One of the standout places to visit is the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve. There are two walks, the woodland and the mountain walk. Our journal post  provides more information here.

Outdoor Adventure

The coastline around Loch Torridon provides some awe-inspiring scenery. There are a number of public jetties for launching your own equipment. Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures provides a range of activities and an equipment hire service.

Mountain bikers looking for a remote adventure experience will find the Torridon area a destination not to miss. Detailed information on routes and trails can be found on Trail Forks website​.

Culture and History

The area has a rich history from early settlement to clan dynamics and significant socio-economic changes like the Highland Clearances.

The award winning Gairloch Museum specialises in the history, culture and natural heritage of Wester Ross. The museum has a range of educational exhibits and events for the public.

Art, Craft and Photography

Inspired by the wide open landscape Lisa Fenton O'Brien is based in Shieldaig at the Blue Roof Studio.

 

Further a field along the road towards Kishorn is The Bealach Cafe and Gallery at Tornapress with a range of work from artists and crafters. A stunning exhibition of landscape and wildlife photography can be seen at the 'Applecross Photographic Gallery'.

Wildlife

The Torridon area offers incredible wildlife, from iconic red deer, pine martens, sea otters, golden and white tailed eagles along with marine mammals like seals and porpoises and an abundance of sea birds.
